When to call

Signs it is time

  • A campfire or tar smell from the fireplace, worse on humid days
  • Black, flaky or shiny deposits on the damper or smoke shelf
  • Smoke rolling into the room instead of drawing up the flue
  • Fires that are hard to start or keep going
  • More than a cord of wood burned since the last sweep
What is included

What we actually do

  1. Drop cloths down and a HEPA vacuum running before anything is touched
  2. Firebox, damper, smoke shelf and smoke chamber cleaned, not just the flue
  3. Flue brushed top to bottom with the right size brush for the liner
  4. Camera run after cleaning so you see the flue walls, not the soot
  5. Photos of anything that needs attention, with what can wait and what cannot

  2. CrownThe concrete slab on top of the stack. Once it cracks, water goes straight into the masonry below. Masonry Restoration →
  3. Flue linerCarries smoke and exhaust safely up and out. Cracked or missing liners are the most common hidden problem. Liners & Relining →
  4. MasonryBrick or stone and mortar. Freeze-thaw cycles open the joints first, then the bricks start to spall. Masonry Restoration →
  5. FlashingMetal that seals the joint between the chimney and the roof, and the source of most leaks. Crowns, Caps & Waterproofing →

How we handle chimney sweeping

Describe the property

Number of fireplaces, age of the house, what is venting into the stack. A short note is plenty.

Schedule the survey

We book a proper window, confirm the day before, and text before the tech arrives.

Camera survey of each flue

Every flue documented on its own, with the footage kept as part of your record.

Report, then a scoped quote

You get findings and photos first, and a priced scope of work second — with priorities marked.

Chimney Sweeping questions

Before you book

How long does a sweep take?
Most single-flue sweeps take one to two hours including set-up, the camera check and clean-up. A stack with several flues, or a stove with a long liner, takes longer.
Will it make a mess?
It should not. The hearth is covered, a HEPA vacuum runs the whole time, and the room is left as it was found.
Do I need to stop using the fireplace beforehand?
Let the fire go out the night before so the firebox is cold. Ashes can stay; we remove them.

Level 1 & Level 2 Inspections

Each flue in the stack scanned with a camera and documented separately. The report is written for homeowners, realtors and insurers alike.

Masonry Restoration

Repointing, brick replacement and crown rebuilding using lime-based mortar matched to the original — critical on pre-war masonry, and routinely got wrong.

Liners & Relining

Stainless liners for wood, gas and oil appliances, sized properly per flue. Essential where a modern boiler now vents into a Victorian-era chimney.
